INVERCLYDE people have donated hundreds of pounds to help a young girl go to the Paralympics in Rio – and for her brother to compete at the next Commonwealth Games.

The money was collected by Tommy ‘The Clown’ Armstrong of Greenock for 13-year-old swimmer Abby Kane, who leaves for Rio on Saturday, and her brother Fraser, 18, who is training for the tandem cycle event at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018.

Both of the Largs teenagers have severe sight disabilities.
Their mum Karen said she was very grateful to Inverclyde people and Tommy for their support.

A total of £300 was dropped in Tommy’s bucket in Greenock town centre, meaning he has now raised £443 for the sister and brother.

He hopes to add to that this weekend when he will be at the Largs Viking Festival.

Tommy, 75, said: “I’m full of admiration for Abby and Fraser, and I wish them all the best in their chosen sports.”
