SIX people will lose their jobs when a long-established Greenock insurance shop closes its doors this weekend.
Staff at the Swinton branch in West Blackhall Street will pull down the shutters for the final time on Saturday, the Tele can reveal.
The shop employs six workers, including five customer service assistants and a cleaner.
Bosses at the firm say they are closing the store because they want to invest in a call centre and in fewer ‘more efficient’ shops. A Swinton spokeswoman said: “We are investing in our network to create a smaller number of more efficient branches and a modern call centre.  These changes reflect how our customers choose to engage with us.
“As part of this process the West Blackhall Street is closing on Saturday.  Its customers will be served by Swinton’s contact centre, or by visiting one of our other branches.”
One customer, who did not want to be named, says the closure is a big blow to the town centre. They said: “As a customer of Swinton in Greenock, I’m disappointed that they have decided to close the branch causing job losses again in the area.
“Many people rely on the great customer service provided by the staff.”
Swinton previously had a shop in Union Street before they moved to West Blackhall Street.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Swinton would shut 130 high street branches across the UK by the middle of next year. By mid-2017, the number of Swinton branches across the UK will fall from 325 to 195 as the company looks to focus on digital and telephone business and open a new contact centre in Manchester.
