NEW road markings on a Port Glasgow roundabout are to be repainted this week to address concerns raised by drivers.

Resurfacing works have recently been carried out by Amey at Newark Roundabout, using a combination of overnight and daytime lane closures.

A new arrow appeared on the eastbound carriageway approaching the roundabout last week.

Greenock Telegraph:

Previously, traffic used the inside lane if exiting to Ferguson’s or continuing straight on to the A8. The outside lane was used by drivers heading up Clune Brae, or turning back into Port Glasgow.

Drivers raised concerns online regarding a new arrow which appeared to instead direct Clune Brae traffic via the inside lane.

One social media user described it as ‘an accident waiting to happen’, with another saying it was ‘bewildering’.

Amey, the company which maintains Scotland’s southwest Trunk Road network, confirmed that the markings will be repainted.

A spokesperson said: "Road markings on the A8 at Newark Roundabout will be rectified to address these concerns following resurfacing of the carriageway in March 2024.

“New road markings are provisionally programmed to be undertaken overnight on Tuesday 26 March 2024.

“Details will be communicated via our website swtrunkroads.scot and affected road users are encouraged to sign-up to our free Roadwork Alert service for more information."
