CREATIVE youngsters at a Gourock school proved they're a-head of the game when it comes to colourful springtime celebrations.

Boys and girls at St Ninian's Primary hosted an Easter bonnet extravaganza to show off their amazing seasonal hats.

Pupils and their parents and families put a lot of work into crafting the amazing headwear at home in preparation for a concert and parade in the school.

Greenock Telegraph:
Head teacher Siobhan Currie said everyone did a 'fantastic job' creating the beautiful bonnets.

She said: "It's clear that everyone worked really hard and the children were all very proud to wear their hats.

"They absolutely loved showing them off on stage and displaying them around the school.

"We had hats of all shapes and sizes that were all so colourful.

"They brought a lot of spring sunshine to the school, and put a lot of smiles on faces."

The super springtime hats featured everything from flapping ears and lights, to the more traditional flowers, eggs, and chicks.

Mrs Currie says the Easter bonnet parade is a long-standing tradition in the school, and is consistently supported very well by families.

She added: "It's been running every year for decades and it's always a lovely event.

"We held this year's event on a very wet and miserable day but parents and families made sure they came along to support all of the children who were performing."

Youngsters in primaries one to three took to the stage wearing their beautiful bonnets, and sang a selection of spring songs.

After the show, they walked around the hall to show their hats off to the audience, and journeyed around the corridors to show all of the pupils in the school.

Mrs Currie said the event was all about celebrating the start of spring and looking forward to the new term.

She added: "We had a lot of fun making memories and thinking about all the symbols of the season."
