A GREENOCK music store is hoping that its newest venture will strike a chord with locals as it prepares to put a host of exclusive records on sale.

Reverence Music will be one of 270 shops across the UK selling special edition pressings of a range of popular tracks on April 20 as part of the annual Record Store Day event.

Exclusive pressings of tracks by the likes of David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Noel Gallagher and Daft Punk will be available for local collectors to snap up.

This year marks the first time Reverence have taken part in the event and the shop are also planning to have live music in-store on the day.

The shop’s co-owner, James Haggart, is excited at welcoming in record enthusiasts.

He said: “This is an opportunity for record stores to bring people in.

“It takes people away from shopping online and brings them in here. We’re under strict guidance not to put anything online until the Monday after, so if there’s something people want, they’ll need to come in and queue.

“Most of them are made in a very finite quantity, certain records will only be pressed in 500 copies and there’s 270 shops taking part in the UK. That means that roughly there’ll only be one copy of certain rare records at each store. It’s really exclusive.

“It’s the biggest day of the year for collectors, there will be special releases that have never come out before or, for example, re-releases of popular studio albums on different colours of vinyl.”

James believes the day will be part of a very big weekend for shop, with Taylor Swift’s hotly anticipated album The Tortured Poets Department set to launch the Friday before.

He added: “It’s going to be a busy time.

"Taylor Swift is responsible for a lot of younger people getting into collecting vinyls, she’s been releasing and re-releasing her music on all sorts of different colours.

“We’ve actually got ladies who come in time and time again just to collect every single colour variant of certain albums. It’s incredible.

“The full list of what we’ll have available on record store day is on our website but bands like The Cure have got a release out for it which is a lovely picture disc and we have an anniversary edition of Parklife from Blur.

“There are also some Scottish artists like Big Country and Deacon Blue and then you’ve also got stuff from big modern artists like The 1975 and Noah Kahan.

“We’re opening a bit earlier on the Saturday at 9am and the centre is open from 8am, so if people want to come in and queue up they’re welcome to.

“We really hope this helps us grow and give people a chance to get something special.”

James’ business partner and co-owner of Reverence, Daniel Stewart, said that they hope to make the live performances a regular occurrence at the shop.

He said: “We’re going to have live music in here on record store day and we’ll be doing that every second Saturday from record store day.

“As long as we keep the noise down for our neighbours it’ll be great, we’re going to have two or three bands in each week hopefully.”
