POLICE are urging the public to stay away from Greenock’s Lyle Hill while they work to rescue a group of young boys trapped on the hillside.
Officers were called to Lyle Hill earlier this evening following a report of four boys unable to safely make their way down.
Police say that there are no reported injuries and that they are working with partners to assist the youngsters off the hill.
The top of Lyle Road has been completely sealed off while the rescue takes place, with a large crowd of concerned onlookers gathered nearby.
A police helicopter has also been despatched to support officers in their efforts.
An eyewitness told the Telegraph: “You could see the helicopter circling the hillside and loads of police standing at the top.
“Everyone here is hoping that whoever’s up there is ok.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.15pm on Friday, 26 April, 2024, we received a report of four boys on Lyle Hill, Greenock, unable to safely make their way down.
"There are no reported injuries.
"Officers are working with partners to assist the boys off the hill.
"Members of the public are asked to please avoid the area."
