PEOPLE with a lifelong love of singing have come together to form a choir and will now perform at a special concert tomorrow evening.

Community choir Allegria was set up two years ago by singers who have performed with local musical societies over the years coming together after lockdown.

The mixed voices choir will be entertaining an audience with a variety of music including songs from iconic musical West Side Story, as well as pieces by Gilbert and Sullivan and a host of Scottish numbers.

The group are also delighted to have the talented musician Alison McNeil, who travels the world with rock folk band Reely Jiggered taking on the role of conductor.

Organiser Molly Bryce said: "Allegria formed in September 2022, after lockdown we all wanted to find a way to keep singing.

"We are a mixed voice choir made up of people mainly from the Inverclyde area who share a love of singing.

"Many of us have performed over the years with both the Greenock Light Opera and Laughing Stock Productions

"We rehearse weekly on a Tuesday in Old Gourock and Ashton Church.

"We have come together to sing a variety of music including Gilbert and Sullivan, songs from the shows, Scottish music and other popular pieces."

As well as singing the members are enjoying the many benefits that group singing brings.

Allegria is also delighted to have musician David Mackie as an accompanist.

They will be joined on stage by Alison McNeill, who plays in Reely Jiggered with her sister Fiona, and Mark Norris.

They became an internet hit during Covid-19 when they started performing 'Live on the Drive' sessions in Gourock.

Thousands of people tuned in each week to watch the talented trio and since then they have been in demand to perform an amazing array of their own tunes and covers.

The concert takes place on tomorrow night at 7.30pm in Pirrie Hall, Old West Kirk, Greenock.

It will include music from West Side Story, a Scottish selection, some light classical pieces as well as some popular music.

Tickets are £5, including refreshements, and are available at the door or can be booked by contacting 07734050963.
