I GUESS you won’t be surprised to know that the Bible, which is God’s word to you and me, is there to guide us on how to live our lives.

Millions and millions of people read it and it can be of so much help and His Holy Spirit, who already knows us, is there to highlight what God wants to say to us in any particular situation.

The words of life are in the Bible; words to comfort us, bring peace into difficult situations and encourage is to look for guidance from God as to how to live our lives.

Just this week, when clearing out an office, I came across the first Bible I owned, so it will be 50 years old and more, and yet its instructions to us are timeless. I opened it at a page which had a sheet of paper in it as a marker and this is what I read in Psalm 119.

They do no wrong but follow his ways. You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands.

'I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me.

'How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.’

Simple rules at the end of the day for us. To follow God’s laws and to stay close to Him. Leading to us living pure and blameless lives. Yet if we fall and break His rules and confess it, there is forgiveness there for us.

Throughout the years, many, many people have wondered about life and what it holds for them. If we follow God’s plan for our lives, He will be there for us, whatever life brings us. If we go our own way without His protection over us, we can expect trouble of one kind and another. So, in these days when anything goes, real happiness lies in following Jesus
