FOR years, women born in the 1950s have campaigned to highlight injustice in the UK state pension system.

Many women were unaware that the age at which they would receive their pensions had been delayed.

Women who planned for retirement were unexpectedly faced with financial challenges and real hardship.

At last the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has issued its report, which found that the Department for Work and Pensions did fail these women and that compensation is due.

It is high time that the UK Government and the Labour Party responded to show that they understand the importance of this issue.

Where is the commitment that full and fair compensation will be delivered? This is an urgent matter. As this generation grows older many are not living to see the justice they deserve.

Will any of our elected representatives in Inverclyde join in pressing the UK Government to commit to this long overdue compensation?
