FORMER Morton loan striker Alex Samuel is unsure what the future holds for him — but insists he would urge any Swansea team-mate to jump at the chance to go to Cappielow on loan.
Samuel spent last term with the Ton and scored goals against St Mirren and Raith Rovers and a League Cup double against Motherwell over the courses of nine starts and 21 sub appearances.
The 20-year-old returned to Greenock with the Swans Under-23 team for a friendly in midweek and said his time here was a wonderful experience that benefitted him hugely.
Taking time to speak exclusively to the Tele, he said: “It was weird, really strange to be back and play against the boys I trained with every day last season.
“I even had to think about not going in the home dressing room, but I enjoyed it. It was a great experience to get out and play on the Cappielow pitch again and see the boys.
“It was nice to receive that reception from the fans when I came off. The fans here really helped me to be fair.
“I had good support from them and that always helps, so I was really appreciative of them during my time here. The game was good and both sides did quite well.
“It was good for everyone, especially Swansea for fitness.
“I had a chance to score which Derek Gaston saved. I had a chat with him and said: ‘You could have let that in!’ But it wasn’t meant to be.
“For me now it’s about getting pre-season done and seeing what opportunities come up. Could it be another loan? We’ll see who offers, it could be anywhere.
“Would I come back to Morton? I’d just have to assess every option and make a decision. I wouldn’t rule anything out because it [being away from home] is a sacrifice you have to make as a footballer. I would definitely recommend coming here on loan to any of the other Swansea boys. You gain a lot of experience playing first-team football and it can only benefit you.
“For me, it was a huge experience being here, and it didn’t just help me on the pitch, it helped me off the pitch too.
“Dealing with the press, being on TV — singing on flipping TV! That’s something I never thought I’d do. It was a good time.”
