DEREK Gaston reckons upcoming opponents Dumbarton will be flying high after a brilliant result in the Championship last weekend — but Morton are ready to bring them crashing back down to earth.
The Sons put their first points on the board against Dundee United last week after a Mark Docherty spot-kick was enough to see them defeat many punters’ favourites for the league title.
But while Gaston admits the result and performance will have given Dumbarton confidence, he also fired a warning shot to the visitors, nodding to previous results to prove his point.
Gaston told the Tele: “Their confidence will be at its highest, so it’s maybe not the best time for us to play them.
“They have held their own in this league for a few seasons now. They always seem to be favourites for relegation, though I think they are always underestimated.
“But last week we played Hamilton who were off the back of a good result against Rangers at Ibrox and we beat them.
“Last season we played Hibs — who were off the back of an Edinburgh derby win against Hearts — and we beat them.
“They’ll feel like they can beat anyone, so it will be a difficult game.”
