TON loan star Jamie Lindsay admits it will be strange to play against  former club Dumbarton tomorrow — but said he is fully focused on putting in a top performance.

The youngster spent last season on loan at this weekend’s opponents, making 28 appearances for the Sons, despite picking up a double hernia injury midway through the campaign.

Lindsay believes it will be an unusual experience lining up against the team who he admits he left with fond memories.

He said: “It will be weird playing against the team I was on loan at last year.

“They maybe don’t have many left of the boys who were there when I was but it’s still the same manager.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I don’t have a bad word to say against Dumbarton but everyone moves on.

“It’s different now, it’s a new season and I’m a Morton player. You just need to focus like it’s any other team and any other game.”

Currently on loan from Celtic, Lindsay says he is grateful to Sons’ boss Stevie Aitken for giving him a platform to perform last season — and hopes his time at Morton can also be spent on the pitch, doing what he loves and what he does best.

It was testament to the midfielder’s quality last season — where he picked up the Sons’ Young Player of the Year gong — despite missing a handful of games through injury.

Yet despite his personal success, Lindsay was still critical of his own overall performance.

He said: “I had an injury at Dumbarton, but every game I was fit to play in, I played. I think I managed 29 games in total.

“My only real downfall there was that I didn’t score many goals.

“But I’m looking to getting more for Morton this season, and I’m getting used to the different style of play here.

“I’ve already got one [against Berwick], which is a good start.

“At Morton now it’s up to me to keep playing well and stay in the team.”

The 20-year-old reckons the Cappielow men are ‘on fire at the moment’ and predicts they could be a surprise-package this season — if they can keep their momentum going.

He continued: “We have had a couple of really good results, results that maybe some people didn’t expect us to get.

“We’ve competed well in every game that I’ve played and should maybe have won a few that we haven’t.”

Ton started the season with an away point in the Renfrewshire Derby at St Mirren Park and were denied three points last weekend against Falkirk at Cappielow by Luke Leahy’s controversial late leveller.
