GUTTED Dumbarton boss Stevie Aitken believes his side were robbed of three points on Saturday after claiming referee Mat Northcroft blew two huge decisions at Cappielow.

Aitken, speaking in the wake of his team’s 1-1 draw with Morton, insisted his side should have had a spot-kick when Ricki Lamie appeared to trip Robert Thomson in the box — and said Joe Thomson’s ‘winner’ should never have been disallowed.

He said: “Two decisions like that in one game is hard to take. If anyone says that it wasn’t a penalty or a goal then they’re not very honest.

“The big talking points were the decisions by the referee because it looked a clear-cut penalty. You could see, even hear, the coming together.

“To chalk that goal off was disappointing. The linesman has given it from 25 yards away and even Jim [Duffy] has admitted that there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s disappointing because we feel frustrated that we didn’t get three points.

“At the other end they had two chances that might have went against us, but that wouldn’t have been fair on the boys.

“Frustrated is probably the word to use because I thought we gave a good account of ourselves.”

The Sons manager was satisfied with a draw after clinging on in the last few minutes, but reckons his team should have capitalised on their domination.

He said: “We should’ve come away with more than a point. If someone had said to me before the game I could leave with a point from Cappielow, I probably would have taken it.

“But on the balance of play in the first half I thought we were well ahead. We knew Morton were going to come at us and we lost a sloppy goal from our point of view.”
