MORTON midfielder Ross Forbes says he and his team-mates can approach Saturday’s clash against Hibs in confident mood after their strong showings against the club from Leith last season.

Ton ended the 2015-16 campaign with a record of one win, one draw and two narrow defeats against the Hibees — and Forbes believes those results, and performances, stand his team in good stead for their latest trip to Edinburgh.

Forbes — who scored as Ton inflicted a stunning 3-0 defeat on the Easter Road outfit in the capital back in February — also says that the build-up to Saturday’s game has been no different to the usual routine, despite the fact it sees Ton square off against the bookies’ favourites for the Championship.

The 27-year-old said: “We’re looking forward to it, it will be good to go back there and play. We played well there last season so we’re just looking forward to the game and seeing what we can do.

“We can take belief from playing there last season and doing so well. We’ll see how it goes on the day but we’re going there to give a good account of ourselves.”

Hibs lost Scottish Cup-winning manager Alan Stubbs in the summer to Rotherham United, but rapidly replaced him with another man who is no stranger to silverware, ex-Celtic boss Neil Lennon.

Ton playmaker Forbes maintains that the fanfare surrounding Lennon’s taking of the reins at Easter Road — and the good start his side have made — won’t have any particular bearing as to how Ton will approach the game.

He said: “You need to make sure you have a good week in training, do all the right things leading up to the game.

“The manager will have us well prepared on how they’ll play and how he’ll want us to play. It’s just about preparing properly. Neil Lennon is in the same category as Alan Stubbs in that they are both really good managers.

“He has his team playing well and they’ve started the season well, so it will be a very tough game.”

While Hibs have enjoyed a fine start to the league campaign, Morton are themselves undefeated so far.

They had to come from behind to salvage a point against Dumbarton at the weekend, supersub Kudus Oyenuga netting the equaliser, but Forbes believes that Ton can pose plenty of problems for Lennon’s title favourites — and he feels the different options they have in attack could prove important as they try and take the game to their hosts.

He said: “You adapt as a game goes on and play to other players’ strengths.

“One particular player might like a particular pass or different things and you obviously try and give them the best opportunity you can to do what they like.

“It’s all about seeing what happens during the game, adapting to that and trying your best.”
