GREENOCK moved off the bottom of the Western Premiership One table without a ball being bowled at Glenpark on Saturday.

Their match against West of Scotland, which was due to start at 12 noon, was eventually called off by the umpires at 3pm after a number of pitch inspections due to the persistent wet weather which affected the Greenock area during the day.

Each of the four other Premiership matches due to be played did beat the weather and both of the teams immediately above Greenock in the league table prior to Saturday, Dumfries and Stirling County, lost.

The outcome of these results means that Dumfries slip down to bottom place and Stirling County are immediately above Greenock in third bottom spot.

With just five rounds of matches still to be played, Greenock can still retain their Premiership position if the team can achieve some wins before the end of the season and other results go their way too.

Greenock’s remaining fixtures are Prestwick (A), Clydesdale (A), Stenhousemuir (H), Stirling County (A), Uddingston (H)

Greenock’s 2ndXI side ‘Glenpark’ also had their match against Clydesdale’s 4thXI on Saturday, due to be played through in Hamilton, called off due to the wet weather. The Glenpark XI has only had one match in the last five weeks due to having two matches cancelled because of wet weather, one conceded by Blackhill and one week with no fixture.

The Glenpark XI is in fifth position in their league having won six out of the ten matches which have been completed. The team now has just four league fixtures remaining before the end of the season. This coming Saturday league leaders Woodfarm come to Glenpark and then it will be Inverclyde (H), Stenhousemuir 2ndX (A), Milngavie 2ndXI (H)
