ON Saturday, for the second week in succession, Greenock’s Western Premiership One match was abandoned due to the weather.

However, on this occasion not a single ball had been bowled at Stirling when the umpires decided, after a two hour delay, that the ground remained unplayable and abandoned the game.

Remarkably, since the second half of the league programme began at the beginning of July, wet weather has occurred on every Saturday.

Greenock should have played eight games during this time.

Instead only one has been able to be played as normal.

Three were completed with reduced overs and four were either abandoned or cancelled.

Now just one match remains in the league programme, which is against Uddingston at Glenpark on Saturday.

Meanwhile Greenock 2ndXI finished their season on Saturday against Milngavie 2ndXI.

After a delayed start due to rain and playing a reduced overs match, the Glenpark XI batted first and scored 95 all out.

In reply, Milngavie scored 96 for the loss of 8 wickets to win what had been a well contested match.
