GREENOCK Cricket Club recently held its end of season presentations.

Despite the disappointment of the 1st XI having been relegated from the WDCU Western Premiership One, the occasion provided the opportunity to recognise the achievements of both players and supporters.

The ‘Players’ 1st XI Player of the Year’ award was won by Gregor Chambers.

As the top wicket-taker with a total of 26 wickets in both league and cup competitions and also a total of 411 runs, Gregor had a fine personal season.

The ‘Players’ 2nd XI Player of the Year’ award was won by Emily Norris.

Greenock Telegraph:

Although neither top run-scorer nor top wicket-taker for the 2nd XI, Emily demonstrated great enthusiasm and also considerable cricketing ability throughout the season. As a regular frontline medium pace bowler, Emily took nine wickets and was a fine fielder for the 2nd XI.

Emily also plays for West of Scotland Ladies and her team won the Beyond Boundaries Womens’ Scottish T20 Cup.

Tom Polkinghorne was crowned 1st XI top run scorer for the 2023 season.

Greenock Telegraph:

Sudeep Chaudhary received the top 2nd XI Batting Award.

Greenock Telegraph:

Dave Sharma picked up a prize for most wickets taken for the 2nd XI and most Improved Player awards went to Usman Mansoor (1st XI) and Muhibullah Ahmadzai (2nd XI).

Appreciation Awards were presented by club member Stewart Robinson to Charlie Loftus (Club President), Colin McDougall (Grants & Child Protection Officer) and Alan Boag (Groundsman). Appreciation Awards were also presented to Ian Chambers, Alice Loftus and Alex Wooler, Lynn Cole (bar manager), Angela Prabhu.

A Special Award for International Achievement was presented to Lukas Fischer-Keogh for being a member of the Scotland U19 Cricket squad which successfully qualified for the ICC U19 World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka in 2024.

Greenock Telegraph:
