IT may be freezing winter temperatures but thoughts are already turning to summer with pre-season training due to get underway for Inverclyde Cricket Club this weekend.

Following the re-election of Gareth James as captain at the club's recent AGM, preparations for competitive action in what will be the club's 70th year are due to get underway at St Columba's High School in Gourock at 10am on Sunday.

Training will run each weekend until Easter and the club is looking to increase its membership during 2024 at all levels, from juniors aged 8.

All of the practice sessions, which will take place at the same time each Sunday, are free to attend and kit will be provided by the club following an injection of sponsorship and grant funding.

Further office bearer positions confirmed include Tommy McDade as junior convenor, Scott Campbell as club president and Dave Cooke as secretary.

Outgoing president Tom Boag and secretary David Thomson were thanked for their contributions to the club in recent years.
