A SCOTLAND rugby star whose Greenock granny makes him eligible for the national team has been named as vice-captain for their crunch clash with France.

Scotland face Les Blues at Murrayfield this Saturday in their second game of the annual Six Nations tournament, having survived a late comeback to beat Wales 27-26 in Cardiff in their opening fixture.

Centre Sione Tuipulotu - who qualifies for the Scotland side through his Greenock-born grandmother Jaqueline Thomson - will be vice captain for Saturday's game, having also deputised for co-captain Finn Russell against Wales.

The Glasgow Warriors player will wear the number 12 jersey and link up with his regular partner for club and country Huw Jones, who will be playing outside centre.

Scotland are hoping to overcome a French side still stinging from a humbling home defeat against Ireland last week, and to set themselves up for a Calcutta Cup showdown with old rivals England in the third round of matches.
