IT seems sunny days at last have arrived, and in good time for bowlers of Inverclyde to take to the greens for another season of competition and fun.

Some green openings so far have faced rain and wind but things are now hopefully on the turn. Here is a flashback to some Inverclyde first days of bowling from the past.

Pic1: This picture was taken in the spring of 1999 during the opening day's celebrations at Rankin Park Bowling Club. Jenny Hamill did the honours with an excellent first bowl at the jack as club members looked on.

Pic2: A good crowd turned out to see president's wife Isabell Hunter get Inverkip Bowling Club's 1996 season off to a good start. There was additional cause for celebration as the occasion marked the 90th anniversary of the club.

Pic3: Taken later in the 1994 bowling season, this picture shows Gourock Park Bowling Club's Arthur Walker handing over a cheque to Cathy Bonnar, Ardgowan Hospice income development worker. Senior bowlers of the club raised a welcome £150 cash boost for the charity.

Pic4: Another opening, this time at Fort Matilda Bowling Club in 1994. Members of the club watched on as president's wife Ida McCallum's spot-on first bowl of the season demonstrated her skill, earning her a well-deserved round applause.

They were readying to start their summer of bowling by throwing the first jack back in 2014.
