MORTON have provided a match update to fans following the club's progression to the quarter-finals of this season's Scottish Cup.

Ton were drawn against Hearts on Sunday after the Edinburgh side advanced to the last eight with a 4-1 win over Airdrie, with the tie scheduled to take place at Cappielow on March 9.

However, the home draw means the club has had to cancel two fixtures that were due to be held at the Greenock ground during the same week.

The Sinclair Street stadium was due to host a match between Scottish and Welsh schoolboys on March 7, plus Morton Women's clash with Dryburgh Ladies on March 10. Neither will go ahead at the stadium.

A Morton statement read: "This is incredibly regrettable, and we are gutted to lose such a match but with the infrastructure works that will be ongoing that week, it will not be achievable to host the match as well as the pitch recovery for the match.

"We hope given the circumstances everybody understands these decisions.

"A lot of factors come into these decisions such as TV rigging, infrastructure preparations and recovery of the pitch to meet the demands of hosting such matches."

Morton, who knocked Motherwell out of the cup with a 2-1 victory at a packed Cappielow on Friday night, also confirmed that their scheduled Championship match against Ayr United on March 9 has been postponed due to the Scottish Cup tie.
