MORTON boss Dougie Imrie says he needs more from winger Michael Garrity if he's to cement himself in his side.

The 21-year-old has played his part since returning from a second loan stint at Annan Athletic in the first half of the season, scoring three times and registering three assists.

But Imrie says he still needs to step it up to become a regular in his line-up.

He told the Tele: "Michael's talent isn't in question. I've always maintained that. That's why we've had him out on loan, because of his mindset and his workrate. If we can get all that together then we'll have a player on our hands.

"But he's not a kid anymore, he's not getting any younger. He's not an academy player anymore, he's an adult and he needs to buck up or his career will be over before it's even started.

"Like I've said before he's a loveable kid who I'd love to give more opportunities too. But I don't know what I'm getting from week to week.

"That's not just Michael though, that applies to one or two others I don't know what I'm getting from.

"Nine times out of ten a manager will go with their tried and trusted because they know that regardless of whether they're having a good or a bad game their efforts won't waiver.

"In this division we don't have the biggest of squads, we can't afford to have luxury players sitting doing nothing for 90 minutes, we need guys who will empty their tank and that's how it'll be for as long as I'm the manager of Greenock Morton."
