MORTON full back Calum Waters has revealed he and his teammates have gifted a young ballboy a signed strip after he was badly hurt in an accidental collision during Saturday's victory at Arbroath.

The former Killie man was in line with the incident that occurred midway through the first half, when a tussle for the ball between Ton star Jai Quitongo and Red Lichties full back Gordon Walker saw the Arbroath defender fall over and crash into a ball boy at the side of the pitch.

The young lad required urgent attention from physios and was later to taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee by ambulance for treatment to a leg injury.

Arbroath have confirmed that he is now home after his ordeal and Waters hopes that Ton's gesture will help him on his road to recovery.

Waters told the Tele: "It was a shame what happened. Jai had kind of outmuscled Arbroath's right-back and just nudged him off the park in doing so.

"But by doing that, the Arbroath player has fallen over the ball accidentally and gone crashing into the ball boy at the side of the pitch.

"It was a bit of a disaster and obviously really unfortunate that the young boy was hurt.

"All the boys went over and were pretty quick to go and see if he was alright. We got the game stopped and got the physios on to give him a bit of treatment.

"After the game all the boys got together and made sure that a signed top would get to him at some point, we gave it to someone at Arbroath to pass on. So hopefully it made a wee difference.

"It's nice to see that he is home and recovering well, it's never nice to see things like that happen. Especially to a young kid.

"There was probably a good bit of shock involved as well, a grown man flying into you like that. Here's hoping he's back at a game soon."

Waters says that he and his teammates are now fully focused on securing fifth place for the second consecutive season, as he eyes up a win against Raith Rovers on Saturday.

He said: "We have two more games left and want to finish the league with three wins on the bounce. At the end of the day there's a win bonus still there to play for and we want to finish as high up the league as possible.

"We haven't beaten Raith this season, so that's something we want to do. We want to finish on a high.

"The motivation is there for us and the gaffer and Andy Millen want to have us ready, so we'll be raring to go for the final few games."
