MORTON defender Calum Waters says Morton's second consecutive play-offs near-miss hurts much more than it did 12 months ago.

When asked to compare the two situations the former Killie man insisted that this season's  will leave a bitter taste in his mouth.

He says things could've been a lot different if his side had managed to salvage a few more draws earlier on in the campaign.

Waters told the Tele: "People would say that last year would've felt worse in how we missed out on the play offs, but I don't think that's the case.

"Last year we knew we had done everything we could. This year you're left with a little bit of what-if?

"There's two games now where we know between now and the end of the season, we know that we can't get in, whereas last year we were going up to Cove on the last night needing a win and still within a chance.

"With seven games to go this time I thought that four wins would've been enough to get us in there.

"But it wouldn't have been enough in the grand scheme of things. We are a bit gutted about being left behind in the end.

"There are points over a season that you look back on and kick yourself. Last year we had more draws than defeats and those points are actually precious come the end of the season.

"If you can turn a defeat into a draw, it's a point gained. It's those wee things that matter over the course of the season.

"We've now got to go out and finish on a high, that's the aim."

Waters says his season has been a rollercoaster that has been filled with plenty of highs and lows. When he tried to put his finger on where things went wrong one game stuck out.

He added: "It's probably been the Airdrie away game that's killed us. If we could've even got a point from that game it would've helped us but it wasn't to be.

"It has been a bit of a rollercoaster for me personally, playing every game up until I got injured and then things weren't going too well.

"My first game back was the 3-2 win Dundee United, which was brilliant to be a part of. That was a massive result for the club that day.

"Now it's just about finishing as high up the league as possible."
